Alcohol Ink Flower, Pleased With my First Attempt

Have you tried making an alcohol ink flower? This was my first time. I did ok. I do think I need some more practice. Letting it dry between the layered petals was the key. I used yupo paper for the best results. I did try photo paper. That did not work as well for me. I have seen others do this type of technique too with food coloring. I did not try that at all. I could see that making a great big mess. For the centers, I just created dots with another color of alcohol ink.

Let's Make Some Flowers Out of Yarn

I love adding unexpected items to cards.  Today I am making a flower out of yarn.  These may make their way to a card, or maybe instead as a decoration on top of a box.  I am not sure yet.  But what fun they were to create.  I used yarn I found at Dollar Tree, After I tied it off, I unraveled the yarn using a comb.  It takes a few minutes to get everything frayed but I love the look.  What do you think you would use yarn flowers on?

Flower Pot Card Shaped Card

I know, I know, I didn’t include showing how to make the flower pot part of the card. But these have been sitting in my “extra” die cut container for so long, I just had to use them. Hope you enjoyed seeing how to add the hidden message while adding the flowers to the pot. Anytime I pull from my scraps or precut dies I feel so accomplished. Weird I know. Hope you can use this to adapt for yourself. Shaped cards can be fun so give it a try.

Cupcake Liner Flower

Am I in love with this one? No. However, I will try this again. I got a couple of things I think to make this work better. I still like the end result as it is still quite a different card. What objects that are a bit irregular have you used to make a card?

Shop Your Stash...Ep. 4...use that washi and premade cards

Today, I want to share a card with you that is a perfect way to get cards done quickly.  Maybe that last minute card you weren't expecting to need but your stash is low and you don't have the time.

During my last shopping my stash where I took a look at all the "premade" cut-outs I have, stamped images, etc. I ended up with this beauty to  the left.  Even if you had to die cut the scalloped  circle, the circle, and stamp this would be a less than 5 minute card to put together for those time you need a card.  Not only that but you need a card now!

I started with one of the ombre card bases I picked up from Hobby Lobby.  The Paper Studio has these with envelopes in a rainbow of colors just to make people like me happy.  I don't know what it is but anything ombre draws me in.

This card is in shades of orange.  While looking through my container of die cuts, I noticed the already stamped image that you see here.  The polka dotted circle and the sentiment are both from Paper Trey Ink.  It is an older set called Tag-it's #2.  I layered the circle on the scalloped circle.

To pull it together I added a couple of pieces of washi tape that I had been gifted in a swap.  Then out of my stash I pulled a prima flower.  It was like these were all made for each other.

I hope this inspires you to shop your stash today.  Get some cards made, get inky, and don't forget to have fun.

I am adding this card to the following challenges:

I love my Cricut....and a bit of Mojo

So for Mother's day, I got to buy a few things for myself at my favorite store Michael's.  In that trip, I finally broke down and bought the Cricut Scraper tool and pallet knife.  I have had a Cricut for years but have never bought these tools.  What was I thinking?  This opened a whole new world to me with my Cricut.  I actually, cut out a intricate design, used these tools, and got it off the mat without tearing it.  I am in love with my Cricut all over again.  Now I am going to go on to harder things and starting using it to cut other things besides paper and cardstock.  I know! I heard you gasp.  I have yet to go beyond these simple tools but now I will be pushing myself to try something new.

So with my handy new tools I decided to try everything out and participate in this week's Mojo Monday Sketch # 397.  I stuck with the Thank you theme once again.  I have another card I will share later this week that is....are you ready?  A Birthday Card.  Yeah, something different.

So here's my take on the sketch.

I started out with a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 black base using Recollections Cardstock.  I added a 5 1/4 x 4 inch white panel.  Then a strip of Recollections silver tape went down about 2/3rds down from the top.  Over this I placed a beautiful red rectangle from the Edge to Edge cartridge.  I sized it 2 1/2 inches wide by 3.75 tall.
I added sentiment in Black StazOn ink to a circle I punched out of white cardstock.

I then went back to my cricut and cut out 3 flowers from the Flower Shoppe cartridge in red cardstock.  I have never tried to make these flowers that you roll up before, so I gave it a shot using my new EK sucess tweezers (Again, how have I done without these tweezers?).

I wrapped these up and used some Ranger Glossy Accents to get them glued together.

For the black and creme banners at the top a took a piece of paper out of my stash.  I die cut the banner out using Papertrey Ink's die, cut it in half and placed it on my card.  The one piece on top I popped up on foam.

It was fun trying out new products.  I also pushed myself a bit to do a few things I have never done.  All in all, I liked how it turned out.
