Gatefold Card Closure, No Bellyband

So, I saw some folks make a closure for a gatefold card that was a bit different.  I had to try this out.  I had always made a bellyband as a closure for these types of cards.  This opens a whole new world.  I hope you watch this quick video as I give this a try.  I think I have fallen in love with this, I hope you do too.

Spotlight Technique Using a Stencil

I have really been exploring other ways to do the spotlight technique recently.  For this card, I tried to figure out a way to do it using stencils.  I think I was successful, but I really needed a stencil that stretched over the entire card.  I did make it work by adding black cardstock, but next time a bigger stencil will be what I choose.  I love how this turned out, in fact after I did this card, I ended up making a couple of other cards using this technique for my Etsy Shop that sold!  I hope the recipient enjoyed them.

Use Your Packaging to Create Cards

I love repurposing things in my cardmaking.  With this card, I used some clear packaging.  I die-cut a square to make my shaker.  This was just plastic packaging, not acetate at all.  It still worked.  I was very pleased.  Though I use a die to cut this you could use your paper trimmer just as well.  This is such a great way to recycle.  What are some items you have repurposed for cards?  Let me know down below in the comments.

Adult Coloring Page Made Into a Card

In my Etsy shop, I have a couple of collections of adult coloring pages that are digital.  I decided to take one, print it out on colored cardstock, and then, of course, use the image as a background for a card.  I love how this turned out.  I think next time, I want to try this again, with some colored pencils in complementary colors.

Twist and Pop Card: Cricut Design Space

In 2024 you will be getting exclusive to YouTube a monthly longer video where I push myself to do more interactive, or 3 D paper projects. Some will be simple, some may make me pull my hair out since there will be so many things to cut out. Most months I do plan on using my Cricut to make these paper masterpieces. I hope you will join me on this adventure

Here is the link for the project in Cricut Design Space.

Inchies Need to Make a Comeback

When I saw the inspiration card in my Pins on Pinterest, I already knew I was going to love to make this card.  I was totally right.  Those who have been in cardmaking for a while remember inchies. To create the inchies for this card I did a bit of ink smooshing along with a white embossed image on top.  Then I just cut 1 x 1-inch pieces.  I didn’t even pay attention to the orientation when I placed them on my square card.  You don’t need to.  You could totally do this with patterned paper scraps as well.

Stenciling on Colored Cardstock

To really make a bold card on colored cardstock, it is all about the ink.  My favorite way to do this is to use white pigment ink, then follow it with the colored dye ink of your choice.  If you offset this combo, then it gets this cool dimensional look with no bulk.  This is one of the reasons you should keep white pigment ink in your stash.  It just makes stenciled images look amazing when using this technique.  If you have never tried this, please do.  I think you’ll find this easy to do and so much fun.

Need Matching Cardstock? Use your Inks.

Today’s card was inspired by a sketch. There was only one problem, I didn’t have any navy cardstock on hand which I wanted to use to mat the patterned paper on. No worries, I just put some ink on some white cardstock in a matching ink color. You could have gone direct to paper, but instead, I just used a blending brush to put the ink on. Then I got on with my sketch. I think this one turned out well. Definitely a sketch to revisit.
