Let's Make A Rainbow, Simple Masking

 

Masking is one of those techniques I learned when I was a beginner cardmaker. It helps get those items close together with the appearance one is in front of the other. You don’t have to have lots of fancy items to achieve this look. For this card, I used post-it tape. This did cause a bit of an issue as my orange ink pad was saturated with ink, which meant it bled through the mask. That was the exception. If you want to be completely sure this won’t happen to you, I suggest Gina K’s Masking Magic. It truly is magic. I have yet to have any bleeding when using it.

Let's Review the Cards I Made Using a New to me Sketch Challenge

Here are some cards I made using a new-to-me sketch challenge. The challenge is called Kendra’s card challenge. You use 6 tx6 pieces of patterned paper. You end up with about 15 cards. This challenge takes a bit of time for sure. This was from challenge #10. I like that it helps me focus on using up a pad from a collection. However, since I have done a few more I realized not to leave quite so much white space as I did on these. Using coordinating colors of cardstock and more of the patterned paper really adds to the results. I Love This so Much. Think You Will Too!

 

Such a simple card that I replicated with things that I have on hand. Adding the texture of the ribbon though just made this pop. I love this so much. Something so simple can be so stunning. Remember that! You don’t always have to make a card that takes you hours. Sometimes simple is best. I hope you will try adding texture like ribbon behind a negative die cut space. I think you will like it too!

Let's Make Some Flowers Out of Yarn

 I love adding unexpected items to cards.  Today I am making a flower out of yarn.  These may make their way to a card, or maybe instead as a decoration on top of a box.  I am not sure yet.  But what fun they were to create.  I used yarn I found at Dollar Tree, After I tied it off, I unraveled the yarn using a comb.  It takes a few minutes to get everything frayed but I love the look.  What do you think you would use yarn flowers on?

Let's Make Another Shirt Card

 This is another shirt card for you. It is just as simple as the last one. Beginners, save this one for Father’s day. This one works best with double sided paper. Have fun making some cards everyone!

Try Creating a Recessed Window

 So for this card, I decided to push myself a bit and do a recessed window, if you will. Using several pieces of my cheaper white cardstock, I created layers. I made sure the shape lined up. To make that easier on the layers beneath the top, I used a die larger to help make this line up a bit easier while the overall dimensions of those card layers were smaller. Let’s be honest about two things: I can’t cut straight. So having a paper trimmer is a must. Secondly, I have a hard time keeping things straight and lining them up. So this trick helped. As always, thank you Jennifer Mcguire for sharing that trick with all of us. I loved the end result. So this little trick I will be using this again.

Always Making Sketches Your Own

 I can’t tell you how much I love to use a sketch as a jumping-off point for my cards. I love sketches because you can make them your own. You can change the orientation, change a shape, or use different background papers or stamps than the person who came up with the sketch. Whenever I go to sketch challenge blogs seeing the same sketch with all the different interpretations really gets my creative juices flowing. Then, I set out to make that particular sketch my own. Bonus if the sketch comes with measurements! I love it when that happens.
