Spotlight Technique Using a Coloring Page

Have you ever tried the spotlight technique? Did you know you don’t have to have many supplies at all to try this today and make a card? Well, it’s all true. I used an adult coloring page out of a book I purchased at Dollar Tree to make this card. This is a super fun technique. So simple to do. You will need some pens, markers, colored pencils, a card base, something to highlight the spotlighted area (I used a Sharpie), and adhesive. I hope you will give this one a try. I think it’s worth it.

Thank You

I really love sharing my crafty and not-so-funny videos with you all. It made me smile. I hope it does the same for you. I can’t believe I have now opened an Etsy shop. I would have never found the courage with all of you my followers here and on all social media platforms. Every like, comment, share, favorited (I know it isn’t a word) video really makes my day. I never want to take this for granted so I will occasionally stop by to say thank you again! Those of you who have purchased cards from me, I appreciate it so much!

Those of you here on my blog, thank you for stopping by. Not sure why the number of views have been going up, but I appreciate your support so much!

As always, there is a video about this too here.

Using Heart Die Cuts to Make Flowers

When creating, sometimes you don’t have exactly what you need to make your project. That does not mean you have to stop and go buy a tool. Look around first. Do you have something already that may work instead? Today I used a heart die to make the flower shape I wanted. Using what you have just gives me a great sense of satisfaction. I would hate to see how much more I would spend if I bought everything, I felt I needed to complete all those projects. I hope you enjoy my take on this Pinterest-inspired card.

Halloween Earrings

Just in case you did not know. I do make a few other crafts. The biggest one next to cardmaking or paper crafting would be making jewelry. I pretty much stick to earrings. They can also include paper. Did you know you can make earrings using paper? You can. These I have up in my etsy shop are made of faux leather, from Dollar Tree no less. I will be posting a video soon of how I made these, but if you wish to purchase please see my Etsy link here. I have some cards and a few Halloween inspired Key Chains as well.

Ink Swiping but With an Embossing Powder Twist

I am doing a bit of ink swiping, though this time it is with Versamark Ink. Then just add embossing paper for something a bit different. I do have to admit the card I made looked like 3 eyebrows once I added the black embossing powder, but I was happy with the card when I was done. I don’t have a lot of colored embossing powders, but if you do…wow all the things you can do with this one. This is a technique I can see using quite a bit in the future.

Make Your Own Background With Simple Shapes

You only need a few simple tools to make a card for a friend. This background I made with just sharpie fine lined pen. I just drew simple shapes. They aren’t even straight. When making something like this you just get lost in the process which is the fun of it. Just draw to fill up your paper, then add a simple sentiment, or if you want an image. The best part really is that you made it. I love making backgrounds like this to help relax. Hope you will give it a try next time you just feel the pull to create.

Using Digital Paper to Make a Treat Holder

I made such a simple treat holder with this digital paper. Anyone can do this. You can add small treats, maybe even a bracelet. This would be great for co-workers, friends, or something different for those trick-or-treaters so what’s inside is a surprise.

If you didn’t know I now have an Etsy shop. It houses digital products as well as physical products. Here is an example of one of the digital papers I just released. The great thing about digital products is the price point, the fact you don’t have to store a physical product, you always will have it to pull out to use, and they can be used in so many ways. I hope you will check out my Etsy shop, the link is below. This particular product, I will but uploading another idea for this particular print, so hope you will check out that video that will come out likely next week.

How I Incorporate Repeat Sentiment Stamping in a Card Sketch

You can always change things up when you are making a card. I think that is one of the things I like the most about this hobby. If you aren’t happy with the results, you can always try something different. Making your own patterned paper is one way. In this sketch I used repeat sentiment stamping as one of the “patterned” paper elements. You don’t always have to use the same sentiment over and over; you could change it up and have a few as well. I also love to use background stamps with text as well to just give a bit of background noise for your card. Remember to incorporate the things you have in your stash in new ways. It keeps the creative mojo flowing.

Emboss With Your Dies for a Different Look

I love the classic look. A great way to achieve that is to emboss with your dies for that sophisticated look. This also means you are using your stash in a different way. So, satisfying to find other ways to use your tools to create a different look on your cards. This I kept simple. Which is all that was really needed, I think. If you are new, have you ever tried using your dies to emboss? If not, you will need an embossing pad that is flexible. That is what makes sure your dies don't cut through your card stock. The embossing pad is not too expensive, so if you get a chance, I say try it out.

Kraft and White Cardstock, So Stunning Together

There are certain colors that I think are just wonderful together. Kraft and White are a winning cardstock combination. I am also partial to Kraft and Black as well. I so enjoyed putting this card together. I used these two basic colors, cutting up several dies. I also got to use at Dollar Tree stamp set. I used the Be Brave sentiment as it was one I had not used yet but wanted to. Each die cut was layered until I found a look I liked.

Simple Background Using a Stiff Brush

This is a simple background I used to make all the time on my cards.  It just takes some ink, a stiff-bristled brush, and something to mask with.  Cardstock will do.  I love the result of this simple background.  It is quick.  It is easy, and you don’t have to do much more but add a sentiment.  This is a card tutorial a beginner can follow.  If you want to make it a bit extra, stamp a few images along the pattern.  Hope you enjoy trying this next time you make a card.

Those Christmas Cards can Inspire All Year

Here are some simple cards inspired by a Christmas Card Sketch. As I am working through my Pins on Pinterest, when I get to a sketch or card that does not reflect the card type I want to make, I just change it up. That is what I love about this hobby. Find your inspiration but use what you have. You don't have to have every tool, stamp, die, ink color, you just enjoy the process. I still don't have every ink color in a company's ink collection. I likely won't either, but that is ok. Find the items you want to have, then explore all the ways you can use them. The possibilities really are endless. Let those Christmas Cards inspire you all year.

Adding Embroidery Floss In a Unique way to your Card

I know everyone is into stitching on cards. I love it, though, I haven’t done it in a while. But you can use your embroidery floss, string, or twine in other creative ways too. This one, I loved doing. So simple. I also got to use up some bits of floss I had left over from other projects. I do suggest you use some strong double-sided tape for this. As you saw on the video, I sandwiched the floss between the tape. I really think this helped keep everything in place.

Alter Your Die Cuts for a Different Look

I don’t know about you, but I must remind myself I can cut my die cuts to change it up. It is okay to take your stash and use it in a different way. This is the best way to get more bang for your craft spending buck. This die when I saw it, I could only think of one way to use it, for a shaker. But if it is going to make in my stash, I need to find several ways to use it. So, cutting it up was one of the solutions. I am so glad I did. I love how these cards turned out. They are fun. I think not only my crafty friends will enjoy getting these, but it may be great for teachers too.

Using Perfect Pearl's on Dark Cardstock is Magic

If you have never tried Perfect Pearls, I highly recommend it. Combine it with Versamark Ink, which is a sticky ink, and you have magic. The best part of this to set the Perfect Pearls, all I do is spritz it with a bit of water. That’s it. It really is that easy. The price point is not too bad. I only have a couple of colors due to my limited space, but when I use them it always makes me smile. It is almost as good as melting embossing powder. Oh, as a bonus you can use them to make your own shimmer spray.
