Using Dollar tree Stickers as a Focal Point

I think I am a bit addicted to the stickers I get at Dollar Tree.  Really every time I go, I promise myself I will not buy any.  I always give in because I just find such a cute set I can’t pass up.  This sticker was great for a two-in-one card set.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find I had in that matched it perfectly.  These would be great for quick and easy cards if you are a beginner cardmaker.  Those cupcake stickers are adorable too.

Let's Use a Doily on a Card, Shall We?

I love finding different items I can use in my cardmaking. For today’s Pinterest inspired card, I decided to pull out some doilies I picked up at Dollar Tree. These small little items were perfect for today’s card. I also like to use them as bag toppers. I always try to keep some in my stash. I am sure there are many more different ways to use these creatively. If you have a way, you use them in your crafting please leave your doily hack in the comments below. Maybe in another video soon I can try your hacks to make a card.

Always Making Sketches Your Own

I can’t tell you how much I love to use a sketch as a jumping-off point for my cards. I love sketches because you can make them your own. You can change the orientation, change a shape, or use different background papers or stamps than the person who came up with the sketch. Whenever I go to sketch challenge blogs seeing the same sketch with all the different interpretations really gets my creative juices flowing. Then, I set out to make that particular sketch my own. Bonus if the sketch comes with measurements! I love it when that happens.

Make Your Own Washi Borders

I liked this because it just adds a different option for your cards without having to buy these in sheets, instead just use the washi you already have. I did find it easier to die-cut the washi when I stuck it on parchment paper prior to cutting it.

Creative Way to Add Money to a Birthday Card

So this card is inspired by one I saw on Pinterest. I love this cute way of gifting money to someone on their birthday. It is also so simple. This would be a great card a beginner could really do to bring their cards to the next level. I can just hear a kid squeal when receiving a card with money tucked into the candles. Highly recommend you giving this one a try.

A lot going on with this card

Ya'll there is a lot going on with this card. In my head, this card would have turned out much better than it did. I was trying to do a take on a spotlight technique where the spotlight had balloons on white cardstock with the balloons filled in. It sort of worked, though not sure I am in love with the result. I need to try this one again with a different image to see if the spotlight technique only works having the spotlight be in color...since that is the traditional way to do it. I am glad I left the mistake where I smudged the ink. Beginners, there are always ways to cover up those mistakes. You just have to get a bit creative. To see this video head here. This Kind of Fingerprinting is Fun

Yes, this kind of fingerprinting is fun. Ever thought of using your fingerprints as part of a card design? I did and I am so happy with how this DIY card tutorial turned out. Make those fingerprints into little chickees to help celebrate someone’s birthday. I think this would be cute for a kid or grown-up alike.

I keep thinking about what other greeting cards I could make using fingerprints. This is I think one of the best how-to tutorials for beginners. Think you might try it? If so please tag me #samanthadesigns. I would love to see what you decide to make using your fingerprints as the focal point.

Happy crafting!

Planner Stickers in Cardmaking

I admit it ...I am never going to be someone who keeps a planner. I like to buy stickers, but that is one papercraft that I really don't see myself embracing. So let's use some of those stickers on a card. That I will do. Yes, there is a video you can watch...just head here.

Graphic Watercolor Background

I want something bright, so here is what I came up with. I got to use my Gina K Masking paper for the first time. I have heard great things about this paper. It did not disappoint. This was super simple. It is great for men and women. With just a few supplies you are good to go. If you can write well, you could just handwrite a sentiment instead. Hope you try out your paints...I know you have some in your stash, if not you can use your inks as watercolors. That would work too. You can watch this video here.

Fun Fold Card Using Scrap Paper

I love a good fun fold. This is no exception. Do not be intimidated even beginner cardmakers can handle this one. I used up some scrap paper/cardstock along with other ephemera. So love I am using the stash. What are you making today?

Simple Masculine Birthday Card

I played around recently with making my own washi. This stripe of glasses, mustaches, and bow ties was just begging me to make it into a card. I kept it simple by adding some texture with a circle die by making an impression instead of a cut. Super simple but now I have a go-to birthday card for the next birthday when I need a masculine card. To see the process for this card and the inside of the card you can see the video here.

Peek a Boo Scroll Technique-September Design Team Project

This is a quick technique that adds a little something different to your card. It is great for beginners. Super simple. It also shows off double-sided patterned paper very well. I think you should give it a try.
This is my Design Team card for September over at Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge. You can check out all the great cards for this month's challenge here.
I also have a quick video showing you how to try out this technique if you want a quick look.  Just go here.

Roll_a_card_challenge: Purple, jute, cupcake, and wood

I didn't show the details of this challenge in the video (found here), but here they are: I had to use all the elements above. I first took the wood detail patterned paper and adhered that to a piece of Recollections white cardstock. I knew for the purple I wanted to add some simple ink smooshing. That meant that paper was not going to cut it. I added the cardstock for stability and I was hoping it did not warp so much. I worked! Once I had the "spilled" look thanks to my wilted violet distress oxide ink. I found a die set that I thought would work well. The die set came with a magazine that I now can't find. I do know the set was designed by Sam Calcott. If you have not been following her, you should. I will put her link to her YouTube channel down here.

Ok after I cut out all the elements I added a stamped sentiment to the circle die cut. I wanted to add the jute at the bottom so I created a track for it by building up 3 pieces of cardstock above and below it on the back. This makes this a very hefty card. I think I got carried away with the jute bow so this probably will be a hand-delivered card. The rose gold paper is also Recollections. I added a thin frame of this cardstock to the page before adding the decorated panel. I also die cut the word surprise 2 times from scrap cardstock before adding on the rose gold. It helped it stand out a bit more I think. Finally, sequins...got have that bling, right?

If you want to follow this challenge you can check it out on Instagram here.

I am also entering this card in the following challenges:

Use Your Stash: Make this Card With the Supplies You Have

I wanted to explore again how you can make a card design using different products but still end up with a super cute card. Here is another Happy Birthday that is super simple. Great for beginners or veterans of card making like myself. I used watercolor paints, washi, and on the last one strips of patterned paper. So get your supplies out today to give this a try.

This would be a great one to mass produce to have plenty on hand.
