My First Origami Heart

I have finally used the first Pin I ever Pinned on Pinterest. To make an origami heart, which I then placed on a card, because what else would I do with it? I mean let's be real, that is what I do. I would love to have a bookmark, but I don't read physical books anymore. Do you read physical books? Ok, I could go off on a tangent, but I will stop with that question. I do recommend if you are going to make this heart, for the love of Pete, use paper, not cardstock. You'll thank me!

December Sheetload of Cards

I really love participating in the Sheetload of Card challenges each month. December’s challenge was another great one. For this challenge, I substituted the circle element for a couple of dies. In the video, you’ll see me add the coffee cup. Later though, after some reflection, I did add a butterfly to each card along with some glitter gel pen accents to give each card a bit of sparkle. These are for sale in my Etsy shop. So, I hope you will check out the link below. Better yet, purchase a card or the whole bunch!

Scraps are Versatile, Don't Leave Them Behind

Scraps are so versatile. It is difficult to get rid of any scrap paper because over the years I have learned, that you can use those scraps in so many variations. Long, skinny, short, wide, those scraps can be used to make so many cards. You just have to look to reconfigure them in your head. I have watched so many scrap videos in my time. I learn something new in most of them. So it’s really hard to throw any away. Die cut them, use strips to stamp your sentiments, create inchies, or patterns…the list goes on. Here is another video using the scraps I had lying on my desk that I did not want to waste. Thanks for checking it out.

Tearing your Patterned Paper is OK.

Today’s card is best made using double-sided patterned paper.  You will be tearing said paper as well.  It’s ok.  You are allowed to tear paper.  That was a big trend quite some time ago.  Though not as popular for the card design it works.  Watch the video as I create some interest by tearing a portion of the middle that is rolled back to see a message.  Let me know if you like this with a thumbs up or comment.  I much appreciate the engagement.

Incorporating Mistakes Into My Cards

If you have been a crafter/card maker you have learned over the years how to fix a few mistakes on cards.  This card was one of those for me.  Mainly because I didn’t want to waste a sheet of my Tim Holt’s Watercolor paper.  So, like I do so many times, I just covered the whole image.  This time with such a cute summery washi tape that I got from Temu I think.  Don’t throw out those projects unless you are sure you can’t salvage it.  Incorporate those mistakes likely they will still lead to wonderful results.

Adding a Hint of Color with Paint Scraping

I thought I would try paint scraping again, this time with some color pops I have.  I loved how this turned out.  It just gave a hint of color without covering up the music print under it.  The color pop also gave a bit of shine which I liked as well.  The washi stamps add a bit of whimsy.  But the wooden owl I just love.  They are super thin.  I have found others at Dollar Tree since this card was made.  I had to pick them up to as they add so much without too much bulk or weight.

Pinwheel Card

This would be a great card to use up scraps that you have for sure.  To make a pinwheel card, I suggest using liquid glue to give you some “wiggle room” time.  Also, as I show in the video on that first square you put down, leave the left side without glue.  You have to slide the last square underneath that so having it glued down would lead to disaster.  If you are new to cardmaking, I suggest the pinwheel card.  It’s a classic.

Using Leftover Ink

If I am being honest, at times I am a lazy crafter.  What I mean by that is that at times I make cards using only what is in reach.  I don’t always want to go searching for a particular die, ink, or stamp.  So, I improvise with what I have around me.  I think that having my Pinterest-inspired videos has helped a bit with that.  Now I get a card design in my head using products I have so I am more inclined to get up and find those products.  For this card, however, those lazy crafter tendencies were shining as I decided I wouldn’t get out my ink pads, just use the leftover ink on my finger daubers.  But as you see that did not go as planned.  I think I need to practice my leaf drawing for the next time I try this.

I do apologize as I don't have a great picture of this card.

Spotlight Technique, but With A Die Cut Image

For this card, I really wanted to explore different ways of accomplishing the spotlight technique.  The main image I decided to add a spotlight to was a die cut.  I haven’t seen that done before.  It probably has been done, but I haven’t seen it.  I learned a couple of things.  First, the background and the die need to be the same color.  Also, darker or brighter colors in the background area really help make that area pop.  Once the spotlight is done, I think it is best to keep the rest of the card simple.  I had so much fun making this card.  This is something I will do again.

Flat Shaker Snowflake Gift Tags

I kept eyeing these 3 x 3 pieces of cardstock with the negative snowflake image I had after making last month’s sheetload of cards.  I had to use them.  I could not let them go to waste; they were too cute.  It also allowed me to use up some other 3 x 3-inch scraps of white cardstock as well.

I decided I wanted to make some cute flat shaker gift tags with them.  The to and from is on the back.  These didn’t take long to make at all.  I hope you think of this if you want to try to make your own, if not I do have these up for sale in my Etsy shop.  Just see the link below if you would like to purchase them.

I hope you enjoy my flat shaker gift tags.

Let's Use a Doily on a Card, Shall We?

I love finding different items I can use in my cardmaking. For today’s Pinterest inspired card, I decided to pull out some doilies I picked up at Dollar Tree. These small little items were perfect for today’s card. I also like to use them as bag toppers. I always try to keep some in my stash. I am sure there are many more different ways to use these creatively. If you have a way, you use them in your crafting please leave your doily hack in the comments below. Maybe in another video soon I can try your hacks to make a card.

Wedding Explosion Box: A Nice Keepsake for the Couple

I love making handmade gifts for everyone. I love how this Wedding Explosion Box turned out. It is a pretty simple design. I definitely could have had more elements but I loved the vinyl elements I was able to add thanks to Cricut Design Space. The bride is a Cricut fan so I was hoping she would appreciate it. I loved I had enough of the cardstock left over to make a coordinating bag and card to go with it. The card included my bigger gift of some cash for the happy couple to hopefully spend during their honeymoon. Now they can add some photos some comments on things they want to remember as a keepsake they can keep for some time to come.

Anybody else remember Inchies?

If you have been in the cardmaking world for a long time, you may remember making inchies.  These one-inch squared goodies can be put in all different configurations to make some really beautiful cards.  The card that inspired my version is at the beginning of the video which is so classic.  My version is a bit more cutsie.  I found while making my inchies that this is the perfect thing for using those small stamps we get in those stamp sets.  Then you can make a focal point with the set of those you made.  This is an oldie but goodie.  I think if you have never tried this you should.  This also is great with just patterned paper.  Use those scraps.  Cut them into one-inch squares and get to work.
