Let Me Show You How to Make an Easy Hot Air Balloon with Things You Probably Have in Your Stash

Today I want to show you how to make a hot air balloon, using what you probably have in your stash.  I show you all the mistakes too, so when if you decide to try it yourself, you won’t make the same ones.  It really wasn’t a hard project.  I didn’t have to buy any specialty dies or anything to make it.  I have it stored at work on my shelf where I plan to put all my 3D projects that I make this year.  I hope you come back in March for my next project.

Using Cricut Design Space Images- Drawn Images Can be Colored with Alcohol Markers

I had a custom card request recently.  This is the second card I made so my customer would have options.  What I loved about making this card is really the star of the card, the hot air balloon.  The image is from Cricut Design Space.  My Cricut Explore drew the design then cut it out.  From this, I learned if you are going to color images that are drawn using the Cricut Brand Pens give the image at least 20 minutes or so to dry.  If you color right after the image is cut out, I have had my alcohol markers bleed the black ink some.  But since I waited a bit before coloring this image, I had no bleeding at all.  Hope this helps you out next time you work with these drawn images.

You Can Customize Your Cards with Sentiments Later, No Rules in Cardmaking

Just in case you are new to the cardmaking world.  I want you to remember there really aren’t any rules.  You can add sentiments to the card later.  These cards I have had for some time, thinking that if someone purchased them, they could tell me what sentiment they would want, then I would add that on.  I decided it was time to just finish these off.  So, I used my latest Dollar Tree stamps.  I made them all Happy Birthday cards.  Great cards for men.  These are for sale if you need a card for a great guy in your life.

Use Those Card Sketch Pins and Don't Be Afraid to Mix Patterns

If you have followed me on social media, you know in 2023 I really focused one card a week on using my pins on Pinterest to inspire cards.  This year, I am still doing that but more relaxed on the time frame.  I am not holding to any set schedule.

This is one of those cards inspired by a sketch pin.  I did not shy away from mixing patterns at all.  I am proud of that.  When I was trying to find a focal point, I wasn’t sure I would for this card as it was so busy.  But again, Dollar Tree stickers to the rescue.  That owl is just the cutest thing.

Using Dollar tree Stickers as a Focal Point

I think I am a bit addicted to the stickers I get at Dollar Tree.  Really every time I go, I promise myself I will not buy any.  I always give in because I just find such a cute set I can’t pass up.  This sticker was great for a two-in-one card set.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find I had in that matched it perfectly.  These would be great for quick and easy cards if you are a beginner cardmaker.  Those cupcake stickers are adorable too.

Cricut Design Space Custom Background

I made my fair share of Valentine’s Day cards this year.  I think this is my favorite.  I hadn’t played with my Distress Oxides in a while, so I got to add some color on a panel, add some water to give it that oxide look, I then added gold splatter.  Heaven!  The panel was made in Cricut Design Space.  I made it myself by adding a bunch of hearts on a panel leaving a slice of the middle of the heart intact.  The sentiment is a print and cut straight from Design Space.  After the elements by the Cricut are all cut this was so simple to put together.  I think my Valentine will like this card!  I hope you have had a great Valentine’s Day!

Let's Make a Flat Shaker

I adore flat shakers.  I think I like them more because I don’t have to fuss with the foam tape making sure there is not a gap.  I still had to make sure there were no gaps in this version too thanks to those tiny beads, but I did that using strong double-sided tape instead.  Using the vellum behind the panel I cut out with my Cricut Explore also helps those beads make a nice shaker sound.  This panel came straight from Cricut Design Space. The number of images grows daily with Design Space, so if you haven’t checked it out lately you should.  You’ll be sure to find something for your next project.  I did make sure to cut it using my detail blade so I would get a nice cut.  This card turned out beautiful.

Custom Card- Making Paper Look Like Worn Leather

I love it when I get a request for a custom card.  My customer wanted a card for Valentine’s Day for their significant other.  The inspiration came when she told me she had gotten her Valentine a new journal.  I also asked if she had a particular sentiment or message, she wanted added to the inside of the card which I did include thanks to my Cricut.  I had my Cricut write out the message.  The end result is so cute I had the Cricut also cut that lock in the shape of a key out of some gold cardstock.  I know this is a longer video so thank you for sticking it out if you watched to the end.

Adapted Inspiration into a 3 x3 Card

Today’s Pinterest Inspired card is a cute 3 x 3 card you could use for Valentine’s Day or any day you want.  I also love to use cards like this to pair with a gift I am giving.  Just a quick note and a signature on the inside is all that is needed.  The inspiration pin made me think of this die because it is only one of two that cuts out a pattern in a shape rather than cutting the shape too.  What types of Valentine’s Day Cards are you making?

Handmade Puzzle, This Has Been So Much Fun

I am having fun getting ready for Valentine’s Day by creating a few handmade puzzles.  I used 110lb weight cardstock for each of them.  I kept this one simple by using a Dollar Tree stencil and a few stamps.  I think it turned out just right.  I do have this available in my Esty shop along with a few others if you are interested.  I am also up for doing a custom puzzle if you need one.  It doesn’t have to be for Valentine’s Day.  If you want a custom puzzle for a birthday or any occasion, feel free to reach out.

Cricut Heart Background-Cricut Design Space

To make some simpler cards, I tend to put my Cricut Explore to work.  I found this lovely heart background in Cricut Design Space.  I knew it was destined to be one of my Valentine’s cards this year.  I could have done so many techniques, but I kept this one super simple.  I found a heart background paper in my stash to layer behind it.  I topped it off with a print and cut sentiment also that I found in Cricut Design space.  A few sequins and a dash of a glitter pen and I called it done.  What Valentine’s projects have you been up to?  Let me know in the comments section.

Alcohol Ink Flower, Pleased With my First Attempt

Have you tried making an alcohol ink flower? This was my first time. I did ok. I do think I need some more practice. Letting it dry between the layered petals was the key. I used yupo paper for the best results. I did try photo paper. That did not work as well for me. I have seen others do this type of technique too with food coloring. I did not try that at all. I could see that making a great big mess. For the centers, I just created dots with another color of alcohol ink.
